His father, Herbert James Brown, was a pattern maker who worked in the engineering workshop of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway at Melton Constable. Herbert was also a union official and governor of the Melton Constable School he played a major part in the design and installation of the War Memorial.
1901 census shows his parents were Herbert James Browne and Catherine Frances Porrett. Herbert is listed as a signal pattern maker. Frank is listed as a schoolboy aged 13, born 1898 Norwich. His siblings were Ernest, aged 20 a fish dealer, Walter, aged 18 an engine fitter, Frederick, aged 10 a schoolboy and Winifred, aged 7 a schoolgirl. They all were living at 10 Burgh Beck Road, Melton, Constable, Norfolk. (They were at this address 1901, 1911, 1921 census and 1939 Register)

His service record shows that he was an engine fitter with the Midland and Great Northern Railway at Melton Constable.
1901 census shows that his father was a Signal fitter born at Heacham age 35 and his mother born Briston aged 29. They were resident at 29 Colville Road, Melton Constable. (They were at this address 1901, 1911 and 1921 Census)

Bert Ebling M/5739
Engine Room Artificer 4th class Royal Navy HMS Gurkha. Born  Peterborough, Northamptonshire 3rd February 1892. Lost at sea, 8th of February 1917, aged 25. He was the son of Thomas and Alvina L Ebling of Kings Lynn, Norfolk and husband of Alice Neal, (formerly Ebling nee Morgan), of 14 Malmesbury Road, Southampton. Commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. HMS Gurkha sank on 8 February 1917 after hitting a German mine off Dungeness and going down almost immediately. Only 5 crew were saved. Also remembered on the Kings Lynn War Memorial, and the South Lynn Memorial Window. He had worked at the engineering works at Melton Constable before the war. Two of his brothers also served. The 1901 census shows that his father, aged 40, born in Lincolnshire was a railway engine driver and his mother, aged 44, also born in Lincolnshire. Their family were resident at Saddlebow Rd. Kings Lynn.

240074 Lance Corporal 1st/5th Battalion Norfolk Regiment, born Heigham, Norfolk about 1895 enlisted Melton Constable, 3rd of January 1912, aged 17. Reported as POW (Prisoner of War) 28th August 1915. Died in 4th of April 1917. Son of Herbert Fox and Mary Ann of 6 Kitchener Rd, Melton Constable. Commemorated Special Memorial Angola 68 Baghdad North Gate Cemetery War Cemetery. He died whilst held as POW at Angora, Turkey. He was taken prisoner at Gallipoli. His service record shows that he was a weighing machine fitter with the Midland and Great Northern Railway at Melton Constable.

Killed in action 17th of February 1917 in France, aged 23. Son of way of Arthur Walter Garwood and Helena Hardingham of 62 Unthank Road, Norwich. Previously wounded at the Battle of the Somme, 1st of July 1916. Buried Regina Trench Cemetery, Grandcourt Grave VII.C.21

Arthur Charles Gibson 1586
Private, 5th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment born Highnam, Norfolk. Enlisted Melton Constable, 3rd of January 1912, aged 17 - a Telegraph operator with the Midland and Great Northern Railway at Melton Constable. Discharged from the Army due to being no longer physically fit for War Service, 19th of July 1916 (at this point his trade is recorded as Booking Clerk). He died 23 Feb 1917 in a Hospital at St Pancras, London. He was in England 5 Aug 1914 to 19 July 1916. Report of Medical Board dated 4 July 1916 reads as follows: Total Disablement – Chronic Emphysema. Dec 1914 at Colchester states that 5 days after getting wet through without the opportunity for changing his clothes, he reported sick feeling drowsy and ill. A week later was sent to hospital. Clear liquid was drawn from the chest. Jan to Apr 1915 during this time an operation was performed for emphysema and collapsed lung.
Son of Thomas James Gibson and Ellen Hall, of 9 Kitchener Road, Melton Constable. His death requires further investigation as his medical conditions were due to and aggravated by military service.

The 1901 census shows his father, aged 38, a Telegraph lineman, born Retford, Nottinghamshire, and his mother, age 37, born Lincolnshire. The family were resident at Gloucester Place, Briston. (They were at this address in the 1911 Census). By 1921 the family had moved and were living at 21 Kitcher Road.

In 1911 the family were living at 18 Colville Road, Melton Constable.
He was born 6 Oct 1881 at Gravel Pit row, Holt, Norfolk. He was baptised 11 Dec 1881 at St Andrews Church, Holt, Norfolk. He left £75 10s in his Will.

Plot V Row M Grave 9. Also commemorated on Stanford School Plaques, Stamford, Lincolnshire. Married Florrie Brown on the 25 October 1915 at St Mary and St Benedict Church, Huntingdon, Huntingdonshire. He left his widow £220 8s 1d in his will.
He was a teacher at the Melton Constable and Briston Higher Standard School.
Stanley George Marriott 2nd Lieutenant Field Company, Royal Engineers. Killed in Action, France, 21st October 1916 aged 22. Buried Guards Cemetery, Lesbouefs Special Cemetery 10.
Born 19 Jan 1894 at Melton Constable, Norfolk he was the son of William Marriott and Gertrude Rouse. He was the son of the Traffic Manager and Engineer of the Midland and Great Northern Railway. In the 1901 Census the family is at “Sunnymeade” 1 Melton Street, Melton Constable.
Joseph Henry Pearson 16109 Corporal, 2nd Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Born 27 August 1888 Holbeach, Lincolnshire and baptised 7 July 1889 at Holbeach, Lincolnshire. Enlisted Norwich. Died 16th of June 1916, India, aged 27. He was the son of Tom Henry Pearson and Harriet Dunnett of Cobgate Lane, Moulton, Lincolnshire. Commemorated Kirkee 1914-1918 Memorial.
He had previously served in France.

The family were resident at Station Street, Holbeach. In the 1911 Census Joseph is boarding at 10 Astley terrace, Melton Constable in the House of Albert Lester. Joseph is recorded as a Railway Porter.

The 1901 census shows his father, 44, a railway engine driver, born Bedlington, Northumberland, and his mother, aged 43, born Scotland. In the 1911 Census the family were at 26 Melton Street, Melton Constable, and he is recorded as a Railway Carriage Builder. Enoch married Lily Emma Howard in 1915 in Norwich.

The 1901 census shows that his father, aged 42, born Ipswich, a signal linesman and his mother, age 46, born Beccles, Suffolk. The family were resident at 4 Ferndale Terrace, Briston Road, Melton Constable.
Henry William Thomas Stimpson 1385. Private. 5th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Born 11 Nov 1891 Briston and baptised 18 Oct 1894 at All Saints Church, Briston, Norfolk. Enlisted Melton Constable, 2nd of January 1911, aged 18. Died England 13th of November 1918. He was the son of Henry Thomas Stimpson and Deborah Rayner. Buried at Burgh Parva Churchyard (Grave in the East Part).
His service record shows that at the time of his enlistment he was an engine painter with the Midland and Great Northern Railway at Melton Constable. He was discharged from the Army at Bawdsey, Suffolk, 14th of January 1916 as his period of engagement was over - at this time he was serving with the 61st Provisional Battalion Territorial Force. As his grave is recognised as a war grave he must have died as consequences of his military service. 
The 1901 census shows his father, a railway carriage painter, age 32, born Briston, Norfolk, and his mother, age 32, born Normanton, Yorkshire. The family were living in 1891 and 1901 in Briston. In 1911 and 1921 the family were living at 19 Gordon Road, Melton Constable and in the 1939 Register the family had moved to 17 Burgh Beck Road, Melton Constable.
Richard Bagnell Turbett 270690 Chief Engine Room Artificer 2en Class Royal Navy HM Submarine D3. Born Gateshead upon Tyne, 26 March 1881. Lost at sea 15th of March 1918. Long service and good conduct medal. Son of Alexander Stewart Turbett and Isabella Young of Gateshead. Husband of Sophie Coutts Moffet of 30 Springill, Dundee. He married Sophia 14 November 1910 in Dundee, Scotland. Commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.
HMS D3 was a British D class submarine built by Vickers, Barrow. D3 was laid down on 15th of March 1910. And was commissioned on 30th of August 1911. D3 met her fate on 15th of March 1918. She was mistakenly bombed and sunk by French airship AT-0 off Fecamp in the English Channel. AT-0 was patrolling when at 14:20 a vessel was spotted to her northeast. The airship drew close for recognition purposes and according to her commander, the submarine fired rockets at her. Four 52 kilo bombs were dropped by the airship. The submarine disappeared, but several minutes later men were seen in the water. Attempts were made by the airship to rescue the men, but it proved too difficult. The airship withdrew to seek help, but all the men had drowned by the time it arrived. It is clear that D3 was the victim of a serious identification error on the part of the French airship, with identification rockets being mistaken for aggressive gunfire.
The 1901 census shows that Richard was an engine fitter living at Saddlebow Road, Kings Lynn, with his mother, aged 44, who was born at Gateshead. In the 1911 Census the family are living at 28 Melton Street, Melton Constable.

He was the son of John Warby and Jane of Lowestoft, formerly of London; husband of Ida Mary Smith of 65 Rotterdam Rd, Lowestoft. He married Ida on the 18 April 1917 at St Margaret’s Church, Lowestoft, Suffolk. Buried Dulhallow ADS Cemetery Grave VII.F.16. Also listed at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft.
He left his widow £108 0s 1d in his Will.

27th Battalion Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment). Born 31st of August 1883 Fakenham, Norfolk. Enlisted 27th October 1914 at Brandon, Manitoba. Killed in Action 15th of August 1916, aged 31. He was the son of Charles William Waters and Frances Battle of 12 Ashley Terrace, Melton Constable, Norfolk. They were at this address in the 1911 and 1921 Census.
Commemorated Vimy Memorial.
His Canadian service records show his occupation as asylum attendant and his religion as Church of England.
